Community Outreach
The Alliance of Hazardous Materials Managers – Georgia Chapter is always open to suggestions on ways to interact with our community and we encourage you to contribute. If you have a specific community outreach idea for the Chapter, please email Lane Garwood at lane.garwood@chartisinsurance.com or contact any board member to share your thoughts.
October 2009 – The Chapter held its second annual charity golf tournament in the Piedmont foothills of Hampton, Georgia. This year, we raised $2,000 to begin a chapter scholarship fund. An educational scholarship will be awarded to a deserving candidate in 2010.
If you would like to sponsor, attend, or help organize the 2010 tournament, please email David Wheeler at dwheeler@greenleafgroup.net.
March 2009 – The Chapter approved a sponsorship opportunity to benefit the construction of an environmentally-focused walking trail adjacent to a local elementary school. The Chapter’s $250 contribution will be used to help complete the loop trail and in return the Chapter name will be posted on an individual support sign located along the trail. In addition, members of the Chapter will be speaking to the school’s students about environmental awareness during the 2009-2010 school year.
September 2008 – The Chapter held its inaugural charity golf tournament in the Piedmont foothills of north Georgia. As the picture perfect day unfolded, the tournament benefited the Captain Planet Foundation which funds and supports hands-on, environmental projects for children and youths.
After a morning round of 18 holes, participants were treated to a delicious buffet lunch before the awards ceremony. It was during this ceremony, that the Chapter presented Ira Blumenthal, President of Captain Planet Foundation, with a donation of $5,000. Our sincere thanks go out to those individuals that were instrumental in organizing this event, our corporate sponsors that financially supported this cause, and the tournament attendees for your contributions that made the day a complete success.
